Relief Society, which has the responsibility "to look after the spiritual welfare and salvation… of all the female members of the Church, was organized to provide 'relief of the poor, the destitute, the widow, and the orphan, and for the exercise of all benevolent purposes.' This includes 'relief of poverty, relief of illness, relief of doubt, relief of ignorance; relief of all that hinders the joy and progress of woman.' " - Julie B. Beck

Sunday Report

Good Morning Sisters,

PLEASE SISTERS...know the needs of the sisters you serve as Visiting Teachers. REALLY get to know them and their families so that we can minister as the Saviour would have us minister.  Dig below the surface, pray to see them with the Lord's eyes, and pray for discernment from the Holy Ghost to be able to know of needs that may not be uttered.  There is power in praying for your sisters BY NAME every day and asking the Lord to help us be His eyes, His ears and His hands.  Julie Beck has repeatedly stated that there is NOTHING outside our families that is more important than VISITING TEACHING.  I have gained my own testimony of the purpose and power in visiting teaching as I have had the privilege of serving as Relief Society President.  There is so much good that comes from you being in each others homes each month.  We help the Bishop serve this ward as we report back each family's status.  HE NEEDS US TO BE DILIGENT.

BeckJB_03_rgbYesterday we viewed parts of a talk given by Julie B. Beck given at the BYU Women's Conference last May, 2011.  IT IS POWERFUL.  Please follow the link to her talk and be prepared to listen attentively as she pours out her heart in regard to the role of women, the part we have as women in the God's plan for the world, how revelation is received, the important lessons to be learned from RS's history, how Mary and Martha (LUKE 10) were called to serve the kingdom just as were the apostles and seventy, the importance of the temple, the difference between the Priesthood and Priesthood assignments, and many other subjects that will leave you with a new view of Relief Society and with a deeper love and understanding for the privilege and responsibility we have as women.

It is almost an hour, so find a time you can listen uninterrupted and you may want to have something to take notes with.  Seriously, it is that good.

I want to grow up to be like Sister Beck!
