The lesson for Sunday was the TFOT lesson taken from this October Conference. Peggy Campbell presented the talk "Let There Be Light!" given by Quentin L Cook.
In his opening remarks he refers to a song that was popular during World War II especially during the bombings of London, entitled "When the Lights Go on Again (All over the World), The necessity of blacking out all light from major target area such as London and other centers of population led to a literal time of darkness not to mention the darkness that came to a world involved in a devastating wide spread war. The song reflected the optimistic hope that light and freedom would be restored.
He then drew an analogy to our day and the ongoing conflict between good and evil. He declares that it is the role of the Savior and the Light of Christ which has been given to all men that can bring hope to us today. Freedom and light have been the target of the forces of evil since the War in Heaven as Satan has sought by every means possible to destroy agency and destroy light and truth. We must do all we can to preserve light and protect our families and communities from the assault on morality and religious freedom that Satan is constantly waging.
Evil seems to come from every direction intruding even upon our homes if we are not watchful and careful to throw up barriers to prevent it. Pornography in particular was mentioned as a weapon of mass moral destruction with impact at the forefront in eroding moral values. The internet and the media in general are equally lethal for they so often remove light and hope from the world. The level of decadence is steadily growing and we must black it out from the lives of our families if we do not wish to suffer devastating moral breakdowns which will destroy the peace that we are seeking through righteous living.
We discussed ways these enemies of righteousness seek to assault our lives and the protections we can put in place to help protect our loved ones and ourselves. Our world is becoming increasingly evil, but there are still good people who respect basic moral values. There are however forces that are determined to both destroy faith and reject any religious influence in society for it is through those who worship God and feel accountable to Him for their actions, that morality most readily enters a society. Through the Light of Christ many good people of many different faiths still stand for what is right, though we must work to be sure that those voices are heard in the nation to balance the messages of the adversary.
Elder Cook emphasizes that all voices need to be heard in a society, both religious and secular. It is not automatically assured that what we know as right and truth will be accepted by all people, but they must be allowed to hear those truths. Our moral foundation as followers of Jesus Christ and members of His restored church, can be a beacon light to the world and can be a unifying force for morality and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for all people of goodwill, so we must do everything we can to preserve light hope and morality, not only in our homes but also in our communities, by living and proclaiming the principles that we have committed to through baptism and the other covenants we have made.We will thereby be forces for righteousness in preparing for the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Only then will the Light of morality truly go on again all over this world.
