The lesson for Sunday was the Teaching for Our Times selection given by Peggy Campbell. It is so good to take one week a month and review talks so recently given by our prophets and general authorities. This is the most important scripture for our day and time and it is right that we have the opportunity to discuss it together. It was good to have the Laurels there to share this experience with us. Sister Campbell presented information from two talks given on Easter morning: He Is Risen by President Monson and He Lives! All Glory to His Name! by Elder Scott of the Twelve. President Monson noted the certainty of death is the "universal heritage" of mankind here in mortality. What lies beyond the veil is the question that is often pondered by mankind. The answer comes to us through the revealed work of God, bringing comfort and hope to all who accept it. Through our understanding of the purpose of life, we can understand not only purpose of death, but know that it is necessary part of the great plan of happiness. Because mortality would bring the opportunity to sin to each of Heavenly Father's spirit children who came to earth to be tried and tested and receive a mortal body, He provided a Savior, His First Born Son and Only Begotten in the flesh, to atone for our sins and overcome the physical death to which we were subject because of the Fall of Adam. This great and infinite Atonement could only be made by One who was sinless Himself and who had both mortal and immortal attributes from His Heavenly Father and earthly mother. Christ came to earth, led the sinless life, and before atoning and dying for each one of us, he also gave us a pattern for living in mortality to be worthy to return and live again with Him and with our Heavenly Father. "He marked the path and led the way, And every point defines To light and life and endless day Where God's full presence shines." He passed beneath all things that He might save all things, said President Monson. The darkness of death can always be dispelled by the light of revealed truth. What a huge significance this holds for every mortal being who has or will ever live on this and any of the worlds without number that have been created by the hand of the same Son who willingly and lovingly, but at great personal pain and suffering, performed the infinite and necessary Atonement, laying down His life that we might live again. Elder Scott spoke to this marvelous event, the most significant in human history, and noted that Christ opened forever the opportunity to overcome our mistakes, to repent of improper choices, and conquer the negative effects of a life contrary to His teachings His great love for each one if us motivated the great sacrifice and our unending gratitude should motivate us to learn of Him, follow Him, and live so that His suffering will not have been in vain, by being ever obedient and swiftly availing ourselves of the blessings of repentance when we fall short.
