Traci Cline gave the lesson for today on Chapter 12 of the
Gospel Principles book on The Atonement. It is the most important event that has ever occurred in the history of mankind. Because of the fall of Adam, two kinds of death came into the world: physical death with the separation of the body and the spirit, and spiritual death which is the separation of men from God. These two kinds of death could only be overcome by an infinite atonement, without which our bodies and spirits could never have been reunited and we would never again have been able to live with our Heavenly Father. It was impossible for us to have overcome these two great barriers to eternal happiness on our own and the Atonement made by the Lord Jesus Christ was always the centerpiece of the Great Plan of Happiness presented to us in the premortal world. This Atonement could only have been accomplished by the Lord because, as God's chosen one and Only Begotten Son in the flesh, and because of His sinless life here on earth, only He had the attributes and ability to perform such a miracle. This Atonement touches the life of every person who ever has or ever will live on any of the worlds without number which were created by the Lord under the direction of God the Father. Because of it all will be resurrected and have their spirits united eternally with a body of flesh and bone. Because of it those who have sufficient faith in Christ will be saved from their sins and made worthy to live again in the presence of God, for through obedience that grows from the faith, they will be cleansed from their sins. Our sins are our spiritual debts and how wonderful that He has provided a way that mercy can satisfy justice and allow us to repent and be healed from those sins, for which Christ has already paid the price of justice. How much love and gratitude do we owe to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for this divine plan of salvation. How can we begin to repay our debt to

Them? "If you love me, keep my commandments." Obedience is the key to showing our gratitude for an infinite debt that we can never adequately repay.
