Sunday Update - #38 Wentworth Letter

Joseph Smith Lesson #38 The Wentworth Letter given by Jan Hawken.

Joseph Smith wrote the letter to John Wentworth, hence the name of the document, in an effort to acquaint the gentile world with a true history of the coming forth of the restored gospel from the pen of the man who had been called of God to bring His truth once more and for the last time to the earth. He also included a concise and straightforward outline of the beliefs that were the foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He started with a discussion of the First Vision and the coming forth of the Book of Mormon and his experiences with heavenly messengers including the Father and the Son, with all the insjght that was revealed by these visits.

After reviewing the historical part of the letter Sister Hawken told how she had decided, while preparing for the lesson, to memorize the 13 Articles of Faith so they would be more readily available to her in her missionary work. She led us through the articles discussing ways of remembering the wording and the order. Other sisters offered devices for remembering each article. Then she challenged each of us to make the effort to memorize them, too. This challenge is now coming to each of you sisters.

Join us in committing to memory these basic belief upon which the restored gospel is built.
