Relief Society, which has the responsibility "to look after the spiritual welfare and salvation… of all the female members of the Church, was organized to provide 'relief of the poor, the destitute, the widow, and the orphan, and for the exercise of all benevolent purposes.' This includes 'relief of poverty, relief of illness, relief of doubt, relief of ignorance; relief of all that hinders the joy and progress of woman.' " - Julie B. Beck

Sunday Update

Dear Sisters;

Sister Peterson presented Lesson 36 Receiving the Ordinances and Blessings of the Temple.

We know that Joseph Smith was becoming increasingly concerned that his earthly days might be ended before the Saints could complete the Nauvoo Temple and that he would not get the opportunity confer the holy endowment upon the faithful Saints and thus vital saving ordinances would therefore be lost to the world with his death.

He therefore made certain that the sacred ordinances that we know as the temple ceremonies would be preserved for the work of this dispensation to bring it to all the world and ensure the opportunity for exaltation to the living and the dead, He instructed the leadership of the Church who were spiritually minded and thus prepared to commence the vital work of the temple upon its completion.

Temple building is the sacred responsibility of those who have embraced the restored gospel. The Priesthood ordinances that can only be performed in the temple are essential to the salvation of all God's children living and dead. Here the greatest blessings of God are made available to the faithful, here the power of godliness would go forth upon the faithful to bless the earth. As we take advantage of the closeness of the temple, we will grow in spirituality and find the comfort and strength that has been promised to those who serve in the holy work of the temple for the dead.

Our lives will be blessed as we make temple attendance a priority and our righteous desires will be fulfilled.

We will find the peace that we seek as our faith grows that the Lord's hand is truly in all things.
