Sister Jana Toomey Relief Society Visiting Teaching Coordinator encouraged all the sisters to put new emphasis on their visiting teaching this summer when everyone is so busy. With extra thought and planning we can serve our sisters through daily prayer on their behalf, monthly visits and reliance on the Spirit, that we might be able to serve them and meet their needs.
Sister Merrily Seely, Enrichment Counselor gave the monthly Presidency message in the form of the Joseph Smith Lesson #35, Redemption for the Dead.
One of the most unique aspects of the restored gospel when it is compared to other Christian religions, is the concept of temple work, vicarious work done for the dead that they might have the opportunity to return again to our Heavenly Father's kingdom. This restored principle ensures that all of His children will have the opportunity to choose, through repentance and obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ, to have the greatest of all the gifts of God, regardless of the time and circumstances in which they lived on this earth. As members of the Lord's Church, we have the obligation and opportunity to serve as Saviors on Mount Zion to countless numbers of God's children who otherwise would not be able to progress after they leave mortality, unless those ordinances are performed for them in the flesh. As we labor to find and serve these brothers and sisters in the temples that now dot the earth, we are also refining and perfecting ourselves that we too might be partakers of the eternal life which a loving, just and impartial Father desires for each of His children.
