Sunday Report

Sunday's lesson was given by Sister Traci Cline based on chapter 45 of the Gospel Principles Book, entitled The Millennium.  Traci outlined what we know about this thousand year period, either from the scriptures or from modern day prophets. It will be a period of peace following the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.  At the beginning of this period only the righteous will be here on the earth, those who will inherit the terrestrial or celestial kingdoms.  Mortals will continue to live on the earth, and bring children into a world that will also be visited frequently  by immortal beings who will participate in government and other work.

People will still have their agency and therefore will be free to continue to practice their own religions for a time, though eventually everyone will come to confess that Jesus is indeed the Savior of the world.  During this time He will reign personally on the earth.  The work of this time period will be much like it is on the earth today, in many ways, but temple work and missionary work will be the two areas of emphasis for members of the Church.  During this time, resurrected beings will come to help correct mistakes that have been made as men have researched their ancestors.  The teaching of the gospel will be done with power and authority and nonmembers will come to know the principles and ordinances of the gospel as they live with The Lord as their leader. 

The earth will be renewed during the Millennium and Satan will be bound by the righteousness of the people.  It will be a time without war and contention and death will be a simple change from mortality to immortality in the twinkling of an eye.  It will be a time when all truths will be revealed to us and all things will be done in righteousness.  At the end of the thousand years, Satan will be loosed for a short time and some people, despite all they know, will turn away from Heavenly Father. There will be one final struggle and Michael (Adam) and the hosts of heaven will cast Satan and those who have chosen to follow him, out forever.  The earth will then be changed into a celestial kingdom.
