Relief Society, which has the responsibility "to look after the spiritual welfare and salvation… of all the female members of the Church, was organized to provide 'relief of the poor, the destitute, the widow, and the orphan, and for the exercise of all benevolent purposes.' This includes 'relief of poverty, relief of illness, relief of doubt, relief of ignorance; relief of all that hinders the joy and progress of woman.' " - Julie B. Beck

Sunday Report

Sunday's lesson was Chapter 27 Work and Personal Responsibility given by Traci Cline.

Work is an eternal principle that was modeled for us by Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in the creation of the heavens and this and the other worlds without number that are part the great plan of happiness for all Heavenly Father's children. Work became the way of life here on earth when Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden of Eden, for they had to provide for their own needs and for the needs of their children. Our time on earth was not meant to be a time of idleness, but rather a time of learning through work which should be the ruling principle in the lives of all Church members.

Parents work together to provide for the physical, spiritual and emotional well being of their families. A home where basic necessities are provided, as well as instruction on the principles of the gospel, in an orderly and loving atmosphere, requires much work, both in and outside the home. Children should be taught from an early age to do their part, with appropriate assignments for their age and ability, so that they can learn the joy and benefit and skills of work as they labor alongside their parents. This is an invaluable experience that comes best when families work together.

King Benjamin taught that we can serve God when we labor for the welfare of others. Idleness keeps us from being independent and self sustaining and should be avoided, but there must also be a balance of work, recreation and rest in our lives. We rest from our normal labors on the Sabbath, as commanded by the Lord, and many skills and insights can be gained by wholesome recreational activities during the other six days as well.

Work is a spiritual blessing as well as a physical or mental exercise. It brings growth , character development and satisfaction that idleness never can. President David O. McKay said that the privilege of work is a gift, the power of work is a blessing, and the love of work is success. When, through our righteous choices we are able to return and live with Heavenly Father again, we will find that there is much work to do, and since we have then become like Him, our work will be like His work: " to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man."

Next week will be TFOT by Peggy Campbell, using Elder Nelson's priesthood session talk Be Thou an Example of the Believers

Have a great week!
