Sunday Report

The lesson for the day was TFOT given by Sister Peggy Campbell. She chose three talks that carried the message of thankfulness and blended them into an inspiring presentation that underscored the Thanksgiving activities we celebrated last week. She began with the talk given by Jeffrey R. Holland on Saturday morning of conference where he acknowledged and expressed gratitude for the prayers and support given to the general authorities by the membership of the Church throughout the world.

He went on to reassure us that we are each loved, individually by God, the Father and His Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Each of us is central to the work of the Lord and therefore we are prayed for and cherished by the presiding officers of His Church. They are grateful for all that we do, every kind thing, every kind word, every sacrifice we have made for and in behalf of His children. As partakers of the restored truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our membership in His Church, we should be the most grateful of all people for we have knowledge and opportunities that are unmatched that we might live our lives as they were meant to be lived when this plan of happiness was presented to us in the premortal world.

Elder Wirthlin counseled that we should "live in thanksgiving daily" for the many mercies and blessings that are bestowed upon us by our Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. These words from Alma 34:38 define the attitude that we should have and teach to our families. President Monson continued the theme as he spoke on the divine gift of gratitude. He noted that a grateful heart comes through expressing gratitude to our Heavenly Father for His blessings and to those around us for all that they bring into our lives.

To live with gratitude in our hearts is a touch of heaven, he reminded us. Sister Campbell noted that those who are truly grateful for what life has brought them are the kind of people that are delightful to be around,. and their attitude is catching, while those who express no gratitude but only voice complaint for all that is done for them are difficult to be around and almost impossible to help. Let us heed the words of President Hinckley, as quoted by President Monson: "When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance and conceit and egotism, you walk with a spirit of thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives."

As we enter this holy time of year, let us walk in gratitude for all that we have and all that we know and all that we have covenanted with the Lord to do and become.

Have a great week and try to partake of the choice opportunities we will have.
