Today's lesson was given by Nicole Hill and she presented the talk Mothers and Daughters given by Elder M. Russell Ballard. Nicole started by sharing a humorous essay on motherhood which made us laugh while ringing so very true to anyone who has raised children. Then she turned to Elder Ballard's words on the very wonderful, vital and sometimes fragile relationship between mothers and daughters. He started by emphasizing the importance of Womanhood: "There is nothing in this world as personal, as nurturing, or as life changing as the influence of a righteous woman. This is true of all women for they have within their divine nature both the inherent talent and the stewardship to mother." This is modeled by a righteous mother to her daughter, and the example of other righteous woman can reinforce it as the young woman interacts with those who are trying to live true to their divine natures. He warned young women not to look to contemporary culture for their role models and mentors, for all too often their standards and values do not reflect the eternal perspective and are not the Lord's standards and values. Women have always been the teachers of moral values and we must show our daughters and other young women how to make good choices. Mothers are the first line of defense against the wiles of the world. Mothers must remember that it is not only by words that we teach the important truths that will save our daughters from the pitfalls of a wicked world, but by our every action. We teach the importance and the safety that comes from covenants with the Lord, by keeping the covenants we have already made with Him. Thus we point our daughters to the blessings and safety of the House of the Lord. As we nurture and seek to prepare those we love for the blessings of eternal life,we are refining and making ourselves worthy for that greatest of all the blessings that can come from our Heavenly Father: exaltation.
Next Sunday will be the Presidency given by Sister Vach.
Have a great week.
