Dear Sisters,
The lesson
Praying to Our Heavenly Father, Chapter 8 in the Gospel Principles book was given by Jana Toomey. She had us break into groups and discuss the different aspects of prayer and then we came together and shared the

insight we had gained by discussing. Prayer is communication with a loving Father in Heaven who knows us and knows our every need and desires our eternal happiness and well being. Through prayer we may seek his guidance in every aspect of mortal life. We pray to seek blessings and guidance, give thanks for the blessings we receive, to express love for our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, to find answers for our concerns and problems. Sometimes we pray because the circumstances that trouble us are beyond our control and there is nothing we can do about them but pray and seek comfort and resolution through His hand. We have been counseled to pray often, silently and aloud, alone and in our families and other groups, with true faith and sincerity, always mindful that He already knows the desires and concerns of our hearts but it is through our coming to Him that we truly learn what we do need and how we should act and move forward. We can confide in Him for He is truly a loving Parent who knows us better than we know ourselves. We can and must ask him for forgiveness for our transgressions and weaknesses and for strength to overcome the temptations that do so easily beset us.Our sincere prayers are always answered but it is not always in the manner or time frame we expect, but it is always in the manner that is best in the eternal frame of things. Sometimes it is through another person that our prayers are answered and sometimes we are given the means and power to help answer our own prayers. "Be thou humble; and the lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand, and give thee answer to thy prayers" (D&C 112:10).
Next Week: Chapter 9 in Gospel Principles: Prophets of God.
Have a great week!

Just a personal note...ok, a personal nag. We know the candy was a hit, but please be sure to read the booklet.
I bet there are lots of things in there you can relate to; the perspiration and the baby's nose, how it would have been for him to have a brother "nurture " him through his kindergarten anxiety, etc. I hadn't thought of Adam being alone for much time before Eve came along. It caused me to think about the creation a little differently. That talk was brought to my attention by Sister Marti DeSpain who called to be sure I listened to it on BYU-TV. Anyway, read it and envision what Glenn Pace so beautifully describes in the last paragraph. It is powerful.
