Relief Society, which has the responsibility "to look after the spiritual welfare and salvation… of all the female members of the Church, was organized to provide 'relief of the poor, the destitute, the widow, and the orphan, and for the exercise of all benevolent purposes.' This includes 'relief of poverty, relief of illness, relief of doubt, relief of ignorance; relief of all that hinders the joy and progress of woman.' " - Julie B. Beck

Deadline for DI Christmas Drive is coming soon.

Today, out of order but still wonderful, Nicole Hill taught this month's TFOT lesson using two of the recent conference talks: Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts by Bp. H. David Burton, and Moral Discipline by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. Bishop Burton spoke about the virtuous traits that form the foundation of a Christian life and are the outward manifestation of the inner man; personal traits of virtue that are in steep decline in our society. Civility, fidelity, integrity, honesty, dignity, all seem to be decreasing in the world around us and the results are disastrous not only for society as a whole but on a more personal level, for our own families. As individuals and families we need to be firmly fixed in perpetuating Christlike virtues in our everyday lives, that those of the rising generation for wnom we carry stewardship as parents, grandparents, teachers and ward family, will be able to see what it means to have " virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly" and to have confidence wax strong in the presence of the Lord. Elder Christofferson continues this theme as he speaks of moral discipline which he defines as consistent exercise of agency to choose the right because it is right, even when it is hard, rejecting the self-absorbed life in favor of developing character worthy of respect and true greatness through Christlike service. He notes that the society most of us live in has for some time failed to foster moral discipline opting instead for relative truth and rejecting absolute concepts such as sin and wrong as "value judgments" that must not be imposed on others. In such a world it is only an internal moral compass in each individual that can effectively deal with the root causes as well as the symptoms of societal decay. Our good examples as truly committed disciples of Christ are the best tools we have to combat the adversary in his work to destroy the moral fiber of God's children here on earth. Both talks are well worth careful prayerful study and pondering as we seek to bring ourselves and those we love back to our Heavenly Father.

Next week combined Relief Society and Priesthood under the direction of the bishopric. Nov 29th Traci Cline will be teaching Joseph Smith #44 The Restoration of All Things

Have a great week and it is about time to start seriously thinking turkey and cranberries and all that stuff!
