Today's lesson was Joseph Smith #43 given by Jennifer Walker. It contained testimonies of Joseph Smith's contemporaries of the man and his prophetic calling. Sister Walker began by challenging us to identify a Christ-like quality that we now have, and then Christ-like qualities we would like others to remember about us after we have passed on. Keeping these in mind we shared the testimonies of many Saints who knew the Prophet Joseph while he labored to restore the gospel, organize the Church and prepare the Saints with a firm knowledge of the foundation principles of the restored gospel. Several testified of the integrity and steadfastness he displayed as "he laid the foundation of the greatest work ever established by man-a work extending not only to all the living and to all the generations to come, but also to the dead, " in the words of Eliza R. Snow. Humble and great, young and old they testified of his greatness of soul and his intelligence and benevolence.
Reading this lesson will strengthen our testimonies of the prophet of the restoration even Joseph Smith. This is a vital element of our testimonies of the Gospel which should be the motivating force in all we do and every choice we make in our work of bringing ourselves and our families back to our Heavenly Father. Seeking to make some of the Christ-like qualities Joseph displayed part of our own characters will help us in this important work.
